The Tangled Maze was established by horticulturalist Geoff Green in the late 1980's.  Geoff's vision to create a Botanical maze is living proof today of his sucess.  Geoff and his family lovingly planted 1000's of climbers and twinners to form the 2m high walls of the maze.  Clematis, Wisteria, Banksia roses and Keneddia give a fabulous spring display and this followed by Solanum, Jasmine and Honeysuckle for the summer display.  The Autumn foliages are spectacular with the Ornamental Grapes.  The Winter is pretty with Hardenbergia (Happy Wanderer) draped over the walls and winter flowering bulbs.  The borders of the path are planted with perennials to give a constant and ever changing display.  It took over 4 years for the 3 kilometers of hedge to grow to a stage where it could be opened to the public.
In 2004 Judy and Noel Morrison purchased the Maze and amalgamated their Nursery business Mistydowns with the Maze operation.  Being Perennial and heritage rose growers for more the 20 years they had visions of expanding the garden to incorporate their wonderful collection of heritage roses, unusual perennials and peonies.  With over 2000 rose varieties in their collection, Judy and Noel have spent the last few years developing and landscaping the gardens to house their precious collection.  Massed planting of Iris , rose and peonies all under planted with unusual perennials.
